Pakistan, Afghan, ISAF military commanders discuss security situation

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan, Afghanistan and the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) military commanders held a meeting at the Afghan Ministry of Defence in Kabul on Monday and discussed security situation in the war-torn country.

In a statement, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, Afghan Chief of General Staff General Sher Muhammad Karimi and Commander of the ISAF General Joseph Dunford attended the meeting.

During the meeting, participants reviewed the current security situation in Afghanistan.

The ISPR said that besides the transfer of security responsibility to Afghan National Security Forces in the wake of US/ISAF drawdown, enhanced bilateralism between Pakistan and Afghanistan with particular emphasis on coordination arrangements along the Pak-Afghan border was also deliberated upon during the meeting.

The Afghan military officials also briefed the Pakistani delegation over latest security situation in Afghanistan with special emphasis on Afghan presidential elections.

Later, separate meetings of COAS were held with the Afghan Acting President Younis Qanooni and Afghan Defence Minister General Bismillah Muhammadi, during which matters of mutual interest were discussed.
