Nawaz Sharif stresses need to address root causes of terrorism

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has emphasized the need for addressing the root causes of terrorism.

In a high level meeting on national security held in Islamabad on Tuesday, the prime minister expressed the determination to continue operation against all terrorists without any discrimination.

The meeting comes as the security forces have intensified their actions against militants but at the same time security has been beefed up across the country amid security threats following the Peshawar school attack and executions of terror convicts.

During the meeting, the prime minister said that the nation will not forget the barbaric incidents that took place in Peshawar, Quetta and Wagha. He said that perpetrators of these attacks will not be spared.

Sharif said that protection of all the citizens irrespective of their caste, creed and religion is the foremost priority of the government.

Earlier, the prime minister cancelled all his other engagements for today and decided to spend the entire day only on matters pertaining to national security.

The prime minister is expected to hold consultations with the military leadership, senior advisors and legal team on security matters.
