KARACHI, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif reached Karachi on Wednesday and presided over a meeting to review the situation arising out of the devastating heatwave which has claimed more than 1,200 lives in Sindh.
The meeting was attended by the Federal Ministers including Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Pervaiz Rasheed, Abdul Qadir Baloch, Mushahidullah Khan, Saira Afzal Tarar, Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad, Sindh Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah and other senior officials.
During the meeting, the prime minister was given a detail briefing on harsh weather conditions in Sindh particularly in Karachi.
The prime minister was informed that 65,000 patients affected by heatwave were brought to various hospitals across the province. He was informed that 1,250 persons have lost their lives because of heatstroke.
Prior to the meeting, the prime minister held one-on-one meeting with the Sindh Chief Minister and discussed important issues including the law and order situation in Karachi.
Earlier, the prime minister accompanied federal ministers arrived in Karachi on a day-long visit. He was received at the airport by the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah.
The prime minister will also chair a meeting on law and order situation of the metropolitan City.
Nawaz Sharif was scheduled to visit Karachi on Monday; however, he postponed that till Wednesday (today) due to some official engagements.
