Nawaz orders judicial probe into killing of MQM workers

KARACHI, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Friday that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) reservations will be removed while ordering judicial probe into the killings of the MQM workers.

In a high-level meeting in Karachi to review law and order in the city, the prime minister ordered to constitute a judicial commission within a week’s time to probe into the killings of MQM workers Sohail Ahmed, Rehan and Faraz Alam in Karachi.

Sharif said that whosoever was involved in these killings should be apprehended regardless of their affiliations.

The prime minister said that peace in Karachi is imperative for peace in the country. He said that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the MQM should work together for peace in Karachi.

During the meeting, the prime minister asked the Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad and the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah to resolve issues and maintain harmony between two major parties in the province.

The Sindh chief minister during the meeting briefed the prime minister about the implementation on the 20-point national action plan against terrorism.

The meeting was being attended by the Sindh governor, the Sindh chief minister, the federal interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, the federal finance minister Ishaq Dar, members of Sindh cabinet, and heads of law enforcing departments.

The prime minister also met families of murdered MQM workers Sohail Ahmad, Fraz Alam and Rehan at the Governor House. He expressed condolences with the bereaved families.

A four-member MQM delegation comprising Farooq Sattar, Babar Ghauri, Haider Abbas Rizvi and Qamar Mansoor will also meet the prime minister in Karachi.

Earlier the prime minister accompanied the federal interior and finance ministers reached Karachi on Friday morning to discuss the ongoing targeted operation against criminals by police and Rangers in the city.

The Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah received the prime minister at the airport.
