ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday decided to file a corruption reference against former Minister for Petroleum, Dr. Asim Hussain and others for causing huge loss to national exchequer.

In the case, the accused persons were alleged for fraudulent land allotments and illegal annexation of land, unfair natural gas distribution quotas and money laundering.

The EBM, held under chairmanship of Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Chairman NAB here, also decided to authorize three inquiries.

The first inquiry was authorized on complaint of Australian High Commission, Islamabad against Nazir Abbas of Al-Abbas International Educational Consultants and others.

In this case, the accused persons were accused for cheating students at large and defrauded 106 students by allegedly collecting approximately Rs. 760 million for processing of Australian Visa.

Second inquiry was authorized against Ashfaq Jumani of NHA, M/S Siraj (Pvt) Ltd and others. In this case, the accused persons were accused of misuse of authority by illegally awarding contract to M/s Siraj (Pvt) Limited which caused a loss of thousands of millions to national exchequer.

The third inquiry was authorized against Sardar Asif Nakai, MPA, Khan Arshad Khan-Ex-President Housing Society, Dr. Muhammad Ilyas Qamar, Talib Hussain Talib, Marketing Manager and others of Al-Madina Garden Housing Society, Pattoki, and Kasur. In this case, they were accused of misappropriation and criminal breach of trust in respect of amount recovered as consideration of plots and development works thereof by omitting the development works in the society and non-mutation of land in name of purchasers.

The EBM also decided to authorize investigation against Dr. Asim Hussain, former Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Azeem Iqbal Siddiqui, Ex-Managing Director (MD), SSGCL, Zuhair Ahmed Siddiqui, EX-MD, SSDCL, Shoaib Warsi, Ex-MD, SSGCL, Khalid Rehman, MD SSGCL and others.

In this case, the accused persons allegedly misappropriated of funds of SSGCL and OGDCL by providing illegal benefits to Jamshoro Joint Venture Ltd (JJVL) during 2011 onward Gas worth billions of rupees was illegally awarded to same company by the former Minister and others from various Gas Fields. This caused a loss of approximately Rs. 10 billion to national exchequer.

The meeting re-authorized investigation against Dr. Rasool Bux Solangi, Ex-Deputy District Officer (Revenue), Karachi, Abdul Aziz Qazi, Ex-Tapedar Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town Karachi, Abdul Majeed and Justice (Retd) Zahid K. Alvi.

In this case, the accused persons allegedly misused authority/Corruption and Corrupt Practices which caused a loss of approximately Rs. 1.26 billion to national kitty.

The meeting also re-authorized inquiry against Officers/Officials of Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), Karachi Development Authority (KDA) and others.

In this case, they were allegedly misused of authority and illegal conversion/allotment of land to resourceful persons, causing a huge financial loss.

Moreover, the meeting decided to close Complaint Verification against J.H.Kim, CEO Daewoo, Pakistan due to its civil nature of the case and NAO does not attract cognizance of the offence.
