Multan incident was not just accident: Qureshi

MULTAN, Pakistan: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi said on Saturday that Multan incident was not just accident, rather it was an ample proof of incompetency of the district administration.

At least seven persons lost their lives while 42 others sustained injuries due to stampede which occurred at a PTI political rally in Multan on Friday night.

Talking to media representatives in Multan on Saturday, Qureshi also asked that what Poomi Butt from Gujranwala was doing in Multan? He said that the District Coordination Officer (DCO) Multan should reply who invited Poomi Butt.

Qureshi said that the DCO Multan has become Munshi of Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, adding that he shouldn’t hide facts.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that power supply was disconnected before jalsa and ladder was removed ahead of Imran Khan’s arrival.

The PTI vice chairman said that Imran Khan will visit house of every worker tomorrow who died in yesterday’s Multan Jalsa. He added that the DCO will be responsible for any ‘untoward incident’ tomorrow.

Three-member committee formed to probe Multan incident

Meanwhile, the Punjab government has setup a three-member committee to probe into the stampede and deaths at the PTI rally in Multan on Friday.

The inquiry committee will be led by the secretary environment protection Punjab Iqbal Muhammad Chauhan while DIG Ali Aamir Malik and special secretary home Punjab Doctor Shoaib Akbar will be its members.

The committee will present its report after probing the incident from different angles.
