MQM ready to contest Sindh LB polls: Farooq Sattar

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) senior leader Farooq Sattar said on Wednesday that his party is ready to contest the local bodies elections in Sindh whenever they are held.

Talking to media representatives in Karachi on Wednesday, the MQM lawmaker in the National Assembly said that after the decision of Sindh High Court (SCH) to annul the recent delimitations in the province there are now doubts about the date of elections that should be cleared by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

A divisional bench of the SHC headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah on Monday ruled all amendments made to the local government ordinance unconstitutional and has ordered that they be withdrawn.

The bench also set aside the entire delimitation exercise carried out by the delimitation officers for Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur and Larkana divisions. It observed that the elections to the local bodies may be conducted on January 18 on the position existing prior to when the delimitation process started in the year 2013.

The MQM leader further said that his party would work to have an independent local bodies system so the elected representatives could work for the people with complete ease and independence.

Farooq Sattar informed that the MQM is holding its public rallies for local bodies elections in Hyderabad and Karachi on January 3 and 5 respectively.
