KARACHI: The Rangers spokesman said on Tuesday that militants of a political party are involved in recent wave of sectarian killings in Karachi with the aim to create Shia, Sunni conflict during the month of Muharram Ul Haram.

A high-level meeting of Rangers and police was held on Tuesday in which sectarian killings in Karachi were discussed.

The spokesman said Rangers and police are close to the perpetrators’ of these killings and they will be arrested soon.

Earlier in the day, in a press conference Additional IG Shahid Hayat said that an attempt was being made to trigger sectarian clashes in the city. “Shias were killed in targeted attacks yesterday and today Sunnis were shot dead in Karachi.”

“But we have identified the perpetrators of these kills and they will be arrested soon,” Hayat said.
