ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Maldivian Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon will reach Islamabad on Wednesday on a three-day official visit to Pakistan during which she will hold talks with Pakistani leadership.

The visiting dignitary will call on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and the Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi to review the various aspects of Pakistan-Maldives bilateral relations.

Sartaj Aziz will host a lunch in honour of the Maldivian foreign minister and her delegation.

“Pakistan and the Maldives enjoy close and cordial relations. The relations are based on mutual trust, common faith and understanding. Pakistan and Maldives have been actively cooperating with each other at the regional as well as the multilateral fora,” the Foreign Office said in a statement issued in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The Pakistani premier and the Maldivian President Abdullah Yamin Abdul Gayoom, who undertook an official visit to Pakistan in May 2015, expressed their resolve to further expand Pakistan-Maldives cooperation and deepen their ties in diverse fields.

Pakistan and Maldives also signed four memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to strengthen mechanism to stop illicit drug trafficking and enhance cooperation in the fields of education, health and sports.
