ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak said on Monday that the KPK government had no reservations regarding the eastern route of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) but the western route should also contain all the facilities.
Talking to media persons along with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi in Islamabad on Monday, Khattak said that there was big difference between a road and an economic corridor.
Khattak said that according to the map, the western route was nothing more than a road. He said the CPEC western route was the shortest and more feasible from defence point of view. Moreover, he said, it was not vulnerable to natural calamities.
The KPK Chief Minister said that all the facilities of the CPEC should be also be provided along the western route, such as railway line, liquefied petroleum gas pipeline, industrial zones and optic fibre.
Pervaiz Khattak urged the federal government to build the western route of CPEC on priority. He also asked the federal government to give special attention to the deprived areas of the KPK located on the western route.
He said that the CEPC project should be discussed at the Council of Common Interests (CCI). He said that an all parties conference on the issue would be convened next week in Peshawar.
