Karachi yet to see improvement in Coronavirus Cases: Asad Umar

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar on Friday said the overall Coronavirus situation had begun witnessing an improvement across the Country; however, Karachi was the area where the improvement was yet to be seen.

While briefing media persons at the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) in Islamabad, Asad Umar said they were engaged with the Sindh authorities to improve the situation in Karachi as well.

As of July 2, a total of 70,143 Coronavirus Cases including 1,700 registered on Thursday had surfaced in Karachi whereas 1,220 people had died of it, according to the Sindh Health and Population Welfare Department.

The minister pointed out that the number of Coronavirus patients in hospitals today were less than those which had been in the midst of June. Similarly, there was a reduction in the number of deaths as well as the patients on ventilators and oxygen. The federal minister stressed that the situation could further improve if the people continued to follow the precautionary measures.  Asad Umar appreciated the efforts put in by the administration and provincial governments to ensure compliance of the SOPs.

Talking to media, Asad Umar expressed satisfaction that better compliance of Standards Operating Procedures (SOPs) by the people had helped check the spread of COVID-19 in the Country.

The minister pointed out that the number of Coronavirus patients in hospitals today were less than those which had been in the midst of June.
