KARACHI: The Director General Sindh Rangers on Wednesday informed the Supreme Court of Pakistan during the hearing of Karachi unrest case that militant wings of political parties are behind the violence in Karachi.

A five-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing Karachi unrest case at the Karachi Registry.

The Chief Justice remarked to the Chief Secretary Sindh that he had the support of the IB, ISI and MI and why were criminal elements not eliminated with the help of these institutions.

“When police stations are sold and SHOs are appointed after paying money, what work will they do” the Chief Justice asked.

The Chief Justice said that the chief secretary was aware of who the extortionists were but would not inform the court.

Later, the hearing of the case was adjourned till Thursday.

Earlier, the apex court expressed displeasure over the performance of law-enforcement agencies in Karachi and summoned DG Sindh Rangers to personally appear.

The Chief Justice expressed his anger over the absence of DG Sindh Rangers from the hearing. He said that Rangers personnel are not serious in solving the law and order issue in the city, and that Police and Rangers are equally responsible to maintain peace.

The Chief Justice questioned that which force is holding them back in maintaining the law and order across the metropolis.

The bench, then, summoned the DG Rangers after which he arrived shortly.
