Intelligence agencies to investigate murder of Sabeen Mehmoud: ISPR

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa has said that intelligence agencies have been given the task to investigate the murder of rights activist Sabeen Mehmoud.

The Director The Second Floor (T2F) Sabeen Mahmud was gunned down by unidentified armed assailants on Friday night when she accompanied by her mother was returning home after hosting a seminar about human rights abuses in Balochistan at the T2F premises in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase-II.

In a message on Saturday, the DG ISPR strongly condemned the murder of Sabeen Mehmoud and said the culprits will be brought to justice.

Meanwhile, the acting President Mian Raza Rabbani also strongly denounced the killing of rights activist Sabeen Mahmoud in Karachi.

Rabbani expressed his condolences with the bereaved family and said the perpetrators of the despicable act should be brought to justice.

Earlier, the case 214/2015 of Sabeen Mehmoud’s murder was registered in Karachi’s Defense Police Station.

Sabeen Mehmoud received five bullet wounds and reportedly died on the spot when unknown gunmen on a motorbike opened fire at her car while her mother sustained critical injuries and was shifted to a hospital where her condition is now reported to be out of danger.

After the murder of Sabeen Mehmoud, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif sent his condolences to the family of the deceased and immediately summoned a report on the incident.

The Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah also sought a probe report on the brutal murder and directed Karachi Police Chief Ghulam Qadir Thebo to arrest the killers at the earliest.
