WorldHostages rescued in Dhaka, Pakistan condemns IS attack

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan on Saturday condemned the senseless terrorist attack in Dhaka that had led to the loss of precious lives and injuries to many innocent people.

Late Friday, allegedly Islamic State-linked gunmen stormed the Dhaka restaurant and took people including 20 foreigners hostage. Later, the Bangladeshi security forces while launching an operation killed six militants and rescued the hostages.

There were reportedly civilian casualties as well; however, their identity and number were not yet clear.

“The Government and the people of Pakistan extend their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the brotherly people and Government of Bangladesh over the loss of innocent lives and wish the injured early recovery,” the Foreign Office said in a statement issued on Saturday.

The state said that Pakistan stands in solidarity with the brotherly people of Bangladesh and is confident that the Government of Bangladesh will effectively counter this cowardly attack.

“Pakistan reiterates its condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,” it added.

Earlier, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Nafees Zakaria also told that all Pakistani diplomats and their families in Dhaka were safe.
