NationalHeavy downpour likely this week, NDMA directs necessary measures

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has directed all concerned to keep vigilance and take necessary precautionary measures to avoid physical damage and other losses during the heavy downpour likely this week till Thursday.

The NDMA has also alerted the provincial authorities to prepare themselves for coping with heavy rains under its Monsoon Contingency Response Directive 2016, an official of NDMA revealed while talking to APP.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a well marked low pressure area earlier persisting over central parts of India (Madhya Pardesh) moved to further westward while a fresh westerly wave was also likely to approach during mid of the coming week.

Under the influence of these meteorological conditions, more Monsoon currents of moderate to strong intensity are likely to penetrate in Pakistan, producing good spells of rains in coming days.

Rain dust-thunderstorm with isolated heavy falls or windstorm is expected at a number of places in Punjab, Islamabad, Lower Sindh and Kashmir from today till Thursday.

Rain dust-thunderstorm with isolated heavy falls or windstorm is also expected at scattered places of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, FATA, upper Sindh and eastern Balochistan during the period.

While isolated heavy downpours may trigger flash floods in the vulnerable areas.
