PoliticsGovt, opposition lawmakers seek support for presidential candidates

ISLAMABAD: In order to secure maximum support for their respective presidential candidates, government and opposition parliamentarians have stepped up their efforts.

Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) would respond to a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) request to support its candidate after holding consultations, leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Khursheed Shah said.

On the other hand, Water and Power Minister Khawaja Asif is utilizing his energy on seeking support for PML-N’s candidates instead of focusing his main job that is to overcome the chronic power crisis.

The minister on Saturday contacted the opposition leader and proposed party’s names of Mamoon Hussain, Sartaj Aziz and Saeed uz Zaman Siddiqui for the office of President of Pakistan.

On the other, Shah has knocked at the doors of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami to win their support for Raza Rabbani nominated by the PPP for the presidential slot.

Meanwhile, PTI has also fielded Justice (retd) Wajih ud Din for the presidential election scheduled on August 6.
