Federal govt gains support of all political parties on CPEC

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: An All Parties Conference (APC) was held in Islamabad on Thursday during which the parliamentary leaders of all political parties extended complete support and practical cooperation to the government for China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif thanked the political parties’ leaders for extending their complete support and said that a parliamentary committee consisting of representation from all the political parties has been constituted for the oversight of the project.

The prime minister said that a working group has also been set up to address the grievances of the provinces. He said that the resources will be allocated for the project in the next fiscal year.

Nawaz Sharif announced that the western alignment of the corridor from Khunjrab to Gwadar will be completed first on priority basis. He said that under this Hassanabdal, Mianwali, Dera Ismail Khan, Zob, Quetta, Kalat, Nag, Bisma, Panjgur, Turbat will be connected to Gwadar. He said that work will be immediately started at the Mughal Kot-Dera Ismail Khan section.

Earlier addressing the first session of the APC meeting, the prime minister said that the CPEC will be proved to be a milestone for Pakistan. He said that the investment pouring in from China is unprecedented in the history of Pakistan and credit for this goes to all the political parties.

The Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal briefed the parliamentary leaders about the different routes of the CPEC project.

The minister said that the project will benefit all the provinces. He said that Gwadar will be connected with Kasghar with three different routes.

Iqbal said that the project is not mere the name of a road but it envisages establishment of industrial zones and power projects. He said that most of the power projects under the corridor will be established in Sindh. He said that this project will attract more tourists to Gilgit-Baltistan.
