Arrest warrant issued for HEC chief Leghari

EducationArrest warrant issued for HEC chief Leghari

ISLAMABAD: A local court issued non-bailable arrest warrant for Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr. Javed Leghari for failing to pay a building’s rent.

A civil judge Nasr Minallah heard the case regarding the unpaid rent worth Rs. 3.4 million owed by the HEC.

It should be mentioned here that in 2009, Leghari rented a building in sector I/10 on behalf of the HEC’s for an educational project, however, the agreed rent was not paid; this forced the building’s owner to move the district court against the HEC.

Hearing the case in February 2013, the court directed Leghari to pay Rs 3.4 million to the owner. In the last hearing on May 18, Leghari furnished security bonds worth Rs 10,000 as surety to the court that he would pay the rent, but he did not.

Incensed on his absence in the hearing, the court issued his non-bailable arrest warrant and ordered him to appear before the court on June 3
