Pakistan80 % terrorism, crimes reduced in Karachi: Sindh CM

KARACHI, Pakistan: The Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that the Karachi operation against criminals has produced positive results and there has been 80 percent decrease in terrorism, target killing, extortion and kidnapping for ransom.

In his address at the 28th Passing out Parade of Eagle Force at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Police Training Centre in Karachi on Saturday, the Chief Minister Shah vowed to root out the menace of terrorism at all costs.

Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that law and order in the province particularly in Karachi has also been improved due to efforts of security forces.

The Karachi operation was launched in September 2013 against terrorists and criminals by the federal government with the consensus of all political stakeholders in Sindh.

The Sindh Rangers are heading the Karachi operation; however, the issue of special powers granted to the paramilitary forces has been the cause of contention between the federal government and mainstream political parties in Sindh.

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have in the past voiced series reservations over Rangers’ special powers, arguing that the law enforcement agency is acting beyond its mandate and illegally arresting their respective political workers. Both the parties want Rangers’ powers be curtailed.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
