HYDERABAD, Pakistan: Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Babar Yaqoob Fatah Muhammad has said that of total 7000 polling stations to be established for 2nd phase of local bodies’ elections in 15 districts of Sindh province, 2500 had been declared very sensitive.

He said this in a press briefing held at Old Nazim Secretariat Hyderabad on Monday after meeting with officials of Sindh government including Commissioners, DIGs, SSPs, DCs and others to review the arrangements of the upcoming local bodies elections.

Moreover, 203 polling stations have been declared sensitive in Hyderabad division, while in Sanghar and Badin districts some polling stations were also declared very sensitive after incident occurred at Khaipur.

Every effort would be taken to save the life of common citizen, he added.

Sindh government has demanded deployment of 51000 police personnel, 8000 Rangers personnel and 16 Companies of Army at polling stations in the second phase of local bodies elections to be held in Sindh province on November 19, he said.

Such demand of Sindh government would be discussed in the meeting to be held on November 11 at Islamabad.

Reply to question, he said that around 135-140 complaints of first phase of Local government polls regarding ballot papers and other issues had been received by media cell of ECP.

The ECP has taken strict actions against the Returning Officers and other staff deputed at polling stations after receiving complaints lodged by people against them, Secretary ECP said.

Replying to another question, he said that police was conducting inquiry of Daraza incident which is under progress, he said.

He said while replying another question that the code of conduct for media had already been announced whereas no media could publish or air any news without official authenticity.
