Fazl opposes military operation in North Waziristan

Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman

ISLAMABAD: The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has opposed the military operation ‘Zarb-e-Azb’ against the militants in the North Waziristan tribal region, saying the use of force is not solution to any problem.

In his address on the floor of the National Assembly on Tuesday, the JUI-F chief said that the experiments of operations have failed in the past and we do not see that North Waziristan operation will bring peace to the country.

Maulana Fazl said that the North Waziristan operation has forced the local people to migrate to Afghanistan. He said that many people are stranded in the area due to the imposition of curfew.

The JUI-F chief feared that the continuation of operation might result in the deaths of innocent civilians.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman further said that the government should pursue the course of dialogue by evolving a serious mechanism in this regard. He said that his party has always supported peace efforts while rejecting militancy and Talibanisation.
