MUMBAI: Phata Poster Nikhla Hero has generated a lot of curiosity among the masses, and so the team – Shahid Kapoor, producers Ramesh Taurani and director Rajkumar Taurani – was expecting good news from the ticket counters. The film managed to earn just Rs 5.25 crores on the opening day. After receiving mixed reviews from critics and a lukewarm response from the audience, the Shahid Kapoor-Ileana D’Cruz starrer has garnered Rs 19 crores in the opening weekend.

PPNH minted only Rs 6.25 crores on Saturday and witnessed a steady growth of Rs 7.50 crores on Sunday. Exhibitor-distributor Akshaye Rathi feels, “Phata Poster Nikhla Hero has all that it takes to draw in audience from all sections of the society, but the only thing that didn’t seem to work for it is the lack of appeal that Shahid Kapoor faces among movie goers.” he explains, “However, I expect PPNH to be steady at the lower level of collections till Besharam takes over in a big way, thus enabling the investors to cut corners and come closer to the finish line.”

According to BoxOfficeIndia, “The film grossed around Rs 19.50 crore nett in the first weekend. The film had decent growth but opening point was too low therefore overall weekend collections remained low. The film saw its best business in single screen circuits like Mumbai, Delhi and Punjab, so it is tough for the film to go anywhere. The Lunchbox had a wide release in terms of screenings at multiplexes but occupancies were low.”

It remains to be seen whether PPNH will bring in more footfalls in the coming days and help Shahid create a new BO record, which looks difficult right now. Watch this space for more!
