ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) will organize a ‘Saroz’ players contest in Quetta and Gwadar, Balochistan.

Lok Virsa team will be on these locations from November 7 till November 15. Final of the contest will be held in Islamabad on November 27.

All interested persons can contact Lok Virsa for participation and further details.

The Saroz is an instrument derived from the Central and South Asian instrument – Rubab or Rabab.

This string instrument has a metal fingerboard with no frets and numerous strings.

The membrane covering provides resonance in the sound chamber. It is usually played with a coconut pick.

The Saroz is used in many parts of Pakistan including Bal0chistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir.
