WASHINGTON: The United States has strongly condemned the bombing at a mosque in Pakistan’s northwestern Peshawar City, leaving nearly 100 people dead.

On January 30, a powerful bomb blast ripped through a mosque in Police Lines area of Peshawar causing 93 deaths and more than 200 injuries to people including security personnel.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the many who lost their lives as a result of this senseless act of terrorism,” the US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken said in a statement on Wednesday.

The US Secretary of State said that it only compounds the tragedy that so many of the victims were security personnel who had dedicated their careers to protecting and serving their fellow citizens.

Antony Blinken said that the United States stands with Pakistan in condemning all forms of violence against civilians.

“We support the Pakistani government’s efforts to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,” he said.
