Diplomatic CircleScope of Pakistan-Nepal ties needs to expand: Ambassador Mazhar Javed
Ambassador Mazhar Javed - The outgoing Pakistan's Ambassador in Kathmandu Mazhar Javed has emphasized the need to take the bilateral relations between Pakistan and Nepal to new heights and argued that they must not be restricted to trade and economic spheres only. “I feel that we need to expand our view of the trade and economic relations beyond the commodities sector,” the ambassador said in an interview with Republica. The ambassador said that in today’s world, international trade is a much wider concept than mere trade in commodities as it encompasses services sector where we have huge potential; be it tourism, IT, construction, consultancies and so on. Ambassador Mazhar Javed said that both Pakistan and Nepal can work together in the field of education, especially medical education including post-graduation. “I have always urged Nepali students to explore the educational facilities in Pakistan, he said. The envoy said that there already is a large number of Nepali doctors and engineers who have been educated or trained in Pakistan. Lamenting that the huge potential of economic relations between the two Countries remains untapped, the ambassador stressed that the volume of bilateral trade and investment needs to be enhanced. Ambassador Mazhar Javed said that it requires increased interactions between the business communities of the two Countries. “I would greatly encourage Nepali businessmen to showcase and market their products in Pakistan. It is a big and a good market,” he remarked. The ambassador added that agriculture is another area with huge potential for bilateral cooperation.
