ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has launched a countrywide crackdown against the pharma companies involved in illegal and unauthorized increase in prices of medicines.

In a statement, a Spokesperson of the DRAP said that the action has been initiated after the Federal Minister for Health Aamer Mehmood Kiani took notice of the surge in medicines prices.

The DRAP Spokesperson said that action has been taken against 31 pharma companies for illegally increasing the prices. These pharmaceutical companies have also been barred from producing medicines and cases are being registered against them as per the Drug Act.

The Spokesman said that 143 medicines have also been seized which were being sold at high price.

In his remarks, the Health Minister Aamer Kiani said that stern action will be taken against the companies which breach the law.
