ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Abdul Qadir Patel told the National Assembly that infection with COVID-19 still prevails in the Country and its spread continues.

To a question, the minister apprised the Lower House of the Parliament on Friday that the total COVID-19 patients in Pakistan as reported till March 16, 2023 are 1,577,913.

The present status of COVID-19 in the Country as reported till March 16, 2023 is as follows:

The minister told that with reference to mortality the Country can be classified as having experienced low mortality as compared to Regional Countries.

Abdul Qadir Patel told that the World Health Organization (WHO) on March 11, 2020 had declared the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, a global pandemic and a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).

Recently, after the WHO’s Emergency Committee meeting, the WHO Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus declared that the COVID-19 still remains a PHEIC, he added.
