CIS summit starts in Bishkek

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan: The two-day Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) summit is underway here in Bishkek and the first phase of meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers has been concluded.

This meeting will be followed by the Heads of the States meeting on September 16, 2016.

Ministers of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan attended the meeting.

“Russian President Putin will also celebrate 60th birthday of Kyrgyz President Atambayev,” said a Russian official while talking to media.

Heads of the states of CIS will attend a wreath-laying ceremony at a memorial of those people who were killed by Turkestan rebellions a 100 year ago.

The agenda of meeting includes 16 issues related to practical measures for further expanding the multifaceted cooperation between the CIS countries.

According to Secretariat of Council, the ministers will review the draft joint statements of the heads of states on the 25th anniversary of CIS, combating international terrorism, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of completion of Nuremberg Tribunal and the world drug problem.

In the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State, the heads of states will conclude and approve decisions of ministers meeting.

It may be mentioned that CIS Council was established on December 8, 1991 by heads of former SSRs to dissolve the existence of the Soviet Union and announced the creation of the territory of the former republics of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
