ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) would hold by-election in NA-154 Lodhran-I constituency on December 23.

Under the schedule issued by the ECP on Friday, the candidates may submit their nomination papers from November 19 to 20 while scrutiny of the papers will take place between November 26 to 27.

The candidates can file their appeals to the tribunals against the decisions of the returning officers till November 30 and tribunals would decide on their appeals till December 4.

The candidates can withdraw their nomination papers until December 7 and on the next day the final list of candidates will be published.

On August 26, the Multan election tribunal had declared the election held in May 2013 in Lodhran’s NA-154 null and void and ordered the ECP to conduct fresh polls in the constituency.

The by-election in NA-154 was scheduled on October 11 as per the election tribunal’s order. However a few days before the by-election, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) candidate Muhammad Siddique Khan Baloch challenged the verdict of the election tribunal and took the stay.

But the Supreme Court of Pakistan on October 28 in response to the petition filed by Baloch ordered the ECP to conduct re-polling in NA-154 Lodhran-I, maintaining the earlier decision of the Multan Election Tribunal in this regard.
