Basically, Fitrana is a charitable donation of food in the Islamic Concept that must be given before Eid-Ul-Fitr prayer before the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
Fitrana must also be given by every self-supporting adult Muslim who has food in excess of their needs, on behalf of themselves and their dependents.
In Pakistan, the minimum Fitrana amount in 2020 has again been fixed as Rs 100 per person.
The amount is different all around the world, even in Pakistan, the amount of Fitrana has been set at Rs 320 per head considering the value of barley. This is a fixed amount related to food which has to be given according to affordability.
The term food refers to the staple of food which is wheat, barley, dates, raisins, and millet etc.
Since the United States is not a Muslim majority country, the amount of Fitrana is collected by different organizations, however, according to Muslim aid USA, the minimum amount is 12$ per person.
Likewise, in Europe, the minimum amount is 7$ according to Islamic relief organization based in the UK.
In case of Australia If we translate this into a monetary value based on the price of a staple food such as flour or rice, it is approximately £5. Therefore, the amount due for each person is £5 and in Canada the minimum amount is 10$ per person.
All the Muslims around the world are required to pay it before the Eid-ul-Fitr prayer at the end of Ramadan. This is to ensure that monies donated are able to be distributed amongst those most in need in order for them to join in with Eid celebrations.
