The Ambassador of Pakistan to the Russian Federation, H.E. Mr. Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, met today with His Eminence Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The meeting focused on the vital role of inter-religious cooperation for strengthening the ties between the nations. Ambassador Tirmizi and Metropolitan Anthony exchanged views on the deep-rooted similarities between Islam and Orthodox Christianity, especially reflected in the shared values, views on the traditional family unity and moral and ethical upbringing of the younger generation.
Ambassador Tirmizi highly valued the long-standing tradition of interfaith harmony in Russia, noting it as a successful model of peaceful coexistence and specifically lauded the efforts of the Russian Orthodox Church in fostering this environment. The Ambassador emphasized that, in an increasingly fragmented world, inter-religious engagement is a “need of our time” to effectively promote global unity and peace.
Concluding the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their dedication to maintaining a path of active cooperation and dialogue.
