Monitoring Desk: Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Pakistan to the Russian Federation Faisal Niaz Tirmizi highlighted the potential for cooperation between Russia and Pakistan in the creative economy at Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) 2026 held today in Vladivostok Russia.
Ambassador Tirmizi was of the opinion cinema, music, fashion, IT, design and traditional crafts could form the basis for cooperation between Pakistan and Vladivostok region. He stated more than 60% of Pakistan’s population is under the age of 30, creating significant potential for the development of the digital and creative economy.
The session focused on the development of the Far East’s creative economy and opportunities for regional creative products to enter international markets in the Asia-Pacific region. A session titled “Creative Far East: From Local Brands to Exports to the Asia-Pacific Region” was held in Vladivostok as part of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) 2026. Participants discussed the development of the Far East’s creative economy, promising areas for international cooperation, and measures needed to help regional brands and creative projects enter the markets of the Asia-Pacific region.
The discussion brought together representatives of federal government bodies, development institutions, businesses, and the creative community from Russia and other countries. Key topics included government support for the sector, intellectual property protection, professional training, infrastructure development, and promoting creative products from the Far East in international markets.
Ambassador Tirmizi speaking at the panel “Creative Far East: From Local Brands to Exporting to the Asia-Pacific,” referred to Pakistan’s growing cultural engagement with Russia, including the participation and recognition of Pakistani filmmakers, designers and artists at prominent Russian cultural platforms.
He observed that these cultural exchanges are taking place alongside an established foundation of bilateral cooperation in trade, connectivity and media. Among these are the Pakistan-Russia Road Transport Agreement, media cooperation between the Associated Press of Pakistan and Russian media organisations, and Pakistan’s connectivity through the ports of Karachi and Gwadar.
Ambassador Tirmizi noted the scope for further interaction in film and animation, fashion and crafts, and gems and jewellery, including exchanges between creative communities, participation in cultural and fashion events, collaboration in audiovisual content, and closer links between gemstone and craft producers.
He also noted that improved connectivity could provide additional opportunities for commercial and cultural exchanges between the Russian Far East, Pakistan and markets across South and wider Asia.
The Ambassador expressed the view that practical, mutually beneficial initiatives in these areas could add a new dimension to the longstanding Pakistan-Russia relationship, complementing cooperation in trade, energy, connectivity and other fields.
The discussion at EEF 2026 provided a useful platform for exploring how culture, creativity and people-to-people exchanges can contribute to closer ties between Pakistan and Russia, including with the regions of the Russian Far East.
