Additional 10,000 MW electricity to be added to national grid: Nawaz

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government will add additional 10,000 megawatt of electricity to the national grid in its current tenure.

In a meeting on energy crisis held in Islamabad on Thursday, the prime minister said that wind, solar, nuclear, coal and liquefied natural gas (LNG) sources will be utilized to generate this additional electricity.

The prime minister said that all necessary measures are being taken to overcome energy crisis.

Nawaz Sharif expressed confidence that completion of the energy projects will help provide relief to the masses and reduce power outages.

The premier directed the authorities concerned to restrict the power outages to six hours in urban and eight hours in rural areas in the summer season.  He also directed that measures be taken for power conservation including early closure of markets and shops.

The prime minister was briefed on the demand and supply of electricity. He was informed that the country currently faces shortfall of 5,000 to 6,000 megawatt of electricity.
