Suspension of Kissan package to be challenged in SC

While presiding over a meeting held in Islamabad on Tuesday regarding resolving the issues in agriculture department, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif order the attorney general of Pakistan Salman Aslam butt to challenge the suspension of Kissan package in the apex court.

The prime minister said that the Kissan package is for the whole Pakistan instead of one part of the country.

Sharif said that the government is trying to protect the rights of the farmers, and Rs341 billion agriculture package will help train the farmers, improve crops, and increase the production.

“We are giving rights to every Kissan”, the prime minister said.

On September 15, the prime minister while addressing the Kisan convention in Islamabad announced a big relief package of about Rs341 billion for the farmers.

Later on September 30, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) ordered the federal government to stop implementation on the Kissan package till December 3, terming it as an attempt to influence the local bodies elections in Punjab and Sindh.

The ECP ordered to halt implementation on three sections of Kissan package including Rs5000 per acre aid to those farmers having 12.5 acre or less land, a special two percent lesser interest rate for those farmers were cultivating rice and cotton in this season, and increment of production units to 4,000 from 2,000.

The commission said that only those parts of package would be affected by the order which were not previously announced during the 2015-16 budget session.
