DUBAI: Pakistan will participate in the 2017 Champions Trophy after the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday confirmed eight teams for the mega event.

The ICC Champions Trophy will be hosted by England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) from June 1 to 18 in 2017.

The eight teams whose participation in the tournament has been confirmed by the ICC include Australia, India, South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, England, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2017 will be a 15-match tournament with teams split into two groups of four with the top two teams in each group progressing to the semi-finals.

Under the rules set for ICC Champions Trophy 2017, the top teams participate in the tournament while Pakistan is placed 8th in the new ICC one day international (ODI) ranking.

West Indies has been unable to qualify for the tournament as it is ranked 9th while Bangladesh will enter the ICC Champions Trophy for the first time since 2006.

India and Australia are the most successful teams in the history of ICC Champions Trophy as both the countries have won the tournament twice. Pakistan has never even reached the final of the tournament.
