QUETTA, Pakistan: A total of 204 terrorists including around 100 high-profile terrorists have been killed in Balochistan since the anti-terror National Action Plan (NAP) was initiated in the province, the Provincial Home Secretary Akbar Hussain Durrani said.

Talking to media in Quetta on Wednesday, Durrani said that more than 8,000 suspected militants have also been arrested by law enforcement agencies in Balochistan under the implementation of the NAP.

The Balochistan Home Secretary said that since the national plan of action was launched across the country in January 2005, 1,840 intelligence based operations (IBO) have been conducted in Balochistan.

Durrani further said that 530 insurgents in Balochistan have surrendered and more insurgents are expected to lay down their arms.

Moreover, the home secretary said that the law and order situation has improved drastically in the province.

Separately, in a meeting with the Japanese Consul General Akira Ouchi who called on him in Quetta, the Chief Minister Balochistan Dr Abdul Malik Baloch also said that law and order situation has improved across the country including Balochistan.

The Balochistan Chief Minister said that the federal government has taken concrete steps for the elimination of terrorism, extremism and sectarianism throughout the country that have led to improvement as the law and order situation.
