ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The British Prime Minister’s Special Representative on Afghanistan and Pakistan Owen Jenkins has appreciated Pakistan’s role in the fight against terrorism as well as its policies for a peaceful neighbourhood.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi

In a meeting with the Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi in Islamabad, the British envoy discussed matters pertaining to bilateral relations and regional situation with particular reference to Afghanistan.

During the meeting, Fatemi emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to the Afghan peace process for stability in the region.

Tariq Fatemi referred to Pakistan’s desire to build a constructive and trust-based relationship with Afghanistan.

The special assistant also reiterated the Pakistani government’s resolve to root out terrorism and extremism from the country.

Meanwhile, the US Acting Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Jarret Blanc said while briefing a select group of journalists in Islamabad that there is broad international consensus on Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace and reconciliation process.

Jarret Blanc said that every country including Russia and China supports peace and reconciliation efforts in Afghanistan.

The US special representative asked Taliban to return to negotiations and should not resort to violence.

In addition, he said that Pakistan and Afghanistan have strong cultural ties and both Kabul and Islamabad realize that their security depends on each other.
