ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah has burst into anger over arrests of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senior leaders, and warned that war will begin if there is any action against the PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

Talking to media in Islamabad, the PPP senior leader said that everything is happening in Sindh, and the ruling Pakistan Muslim league-Nawaz (PML-N) should understand that they are its arms.

His remarks came after an anti-corruption court in Karachi issued non-bailable arrest warrants for the two PPP senior leaders including the former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and Makhdoom Amin Fahim in a case related to corruption in the Trade Development Authority (TDAP).

Earlier on Wednesday, the law enforcement agencies took into custody the former Federal Minister for Petroleum and the current Sindh Higher Education Commission Chairman Dr Asim Hussain in Karachi.

Dr Asim, who is believed to be a close friend of former President Asif Ali Zardari, is now in Rangers custody and being interrogated for his alleged involvement in corruption.

Dr Asim Hussain remanded in Rangers custody for 90 days

The former federal minister was brought before the anti-terrorism court in Karachi today which handed him over to Rangers for 90-day remand.

The Rangers informed the court that Dr Asim has been placed under a 90-day preventive detention under Section 11-EEEE of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997. The Rangers contended that they have credible information regarding Dr Asim’s involvement in terrorism related activities as well as embezzlement of funds.

Khursheed shah criticized the manner in which Dr Asim Hussain was caught and taken to an unknown location.

“This is not the way,” Shah said, adding that if there was any evidence or case against Hussain it should have been made public.

More arrests likely in Sindh

Meanwhile, authorities have prepared the legal ground to investigate several key politicians, former government officials and influential businessmen accused of financial corruption and graft in Sindh.

The sources said that red warrants have been prepared for former Provincial Minister Syed Owais Muzaffar, former Karachi Municipal Corporation Administrator Saqib Soomro, businessmen Anwar Majeed, and former Sindh Building Control Authority Chief Manzoor Qadir Kaka and others.

The warrants have been prepared but have not yet been issued to bring the accused back to Pakistan for investigation.

The sources said that authorities have decided to also contact the Interpol to bring the suspects back to Pakistan so that they can be investigated for corruption charges.
