ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The United Nations and the European Union have condemned the deadly terror attack that took lives of more than a dozen people including the Punjab Home Minister Colonel (retd) Shuja Khanzada in Punjab’s Attock district a day earlier.

On Sunday, a suicide bomber blew up himself when a jirga was underway at the public office of the Shuja Khanzada in his native Shadi Khan village in Attock district.

The deadly attack left at least 19 people including the Punjab Home Minister and the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Hazro Shaukat Shah killed while 17 other people were also injured.

In a statement issued by the spokesman of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, the UN Chief condemned the Attock bomb blast and called for bringing to justice those responsible for the crime.

While expressing sympathies to the people and government of Pakistan, the UN secretary general reiterated that nothing justifies terrorism.

Ban Ki Moon also extended his condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

In a condolence message on the martyrdom of the Punjab Home Minister Shuja Khanzada in a terrorist attack, the EU President Jean-Claude Juncker also expressed condolences and symapthies with the bereaved families of those killed in the attack.

The EU president assured continued support to Pakistan’s efforts to fight terrorism.

Three-day mourning being observed in Punjab

Meanwhile, a three-day official mourning is being observed in Punjab from Monday over the martyrdom of the Punjab Home Minister Colonel (retd) Shuja Khanzada.

Similarly, one day mourning is also being observed in Balochistan and Azad Kashmir.
