PESHAWAR, Pakistan: A total of 1,665 new born babies have died in 2015 across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa which indicates a 30 percent increase in infant mortality in the province.

According to a six-monthly report of current year prepared by the provincial health department, most number of incidents related to infant mortality occurred in Chitral valley where 689 new born babies died.

The report tells that 26 infants died in Peshawar, 131 in Murdan, 96 in Kohat, and 83 in Mansehra. Likewise, the health department told in its report that 93 infant deaths took place in Malakand, 68 in Upper Dir, 54 in Dera Ismail Khan, 29 in Haripur and 28 in Abbattabad.

Three-day old baby disappears from Khyber Teaching Hospital

A three-day old baby was allegedly kidnapped from Peshawar’s Khyber Teaching Hospital.

His father named Naeem told media persons that he hailed from Kohat and brought his child to the hospital to cure his breathing problem.

Naeem said that his child was admitted to the nursery ward but when he returned to the ward after buying some medicines, he was told by the authorities that his child had disappeared. He said that he has a filed a report with the police of his child’s abduction.

Meanwhile, the hospital administration told that four staffers including two women and two security guards have been taken into custody over the kidnapping of the child.

The hospital administration said that a three-member investigation team has been formed to probe into the kidnapping of the child. It said that the team will submit its report within three days.
