Hafiz Hafeezur Rahman nominated as new CM Gilgit-Baltistan

GILGIT, Pakistan: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has nominated Hafiz Hafeezur Rahman as the new Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan.

The oath taking ceremony of the Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan will be held at the Governor House in Gilgit on Friday evening. The Governor Muhammad Barjees Tahir will administer the oath to him.

A source in the PML-N told media that the announcement regarding the Gilgit-Baltistan Cabinet will be made after a few days. The source said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was scheduled to visit Gilgit to attend the oath taking ceremony of new Chief Minister; however his visit has been cancelled now due to bad weather.

Earlier on Thursday, the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly (GBLA) unanimously elected the PML-N members Haji Fida Muhammad Nashad as Speaker while Jaffarullah Khan as Deputy Speaker.

Later, the ongoing Speaker Wazir Baig administered the oath to the new Speaker.

The PML-N emerged as the single largest party after winning 14 Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly seats out of 24 in the elections held on June 8.
