Uniform timing for Azan to be introduced in Pakistan: minister

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal government has unveiled its plan of introducing uniform timing for Azan throughout the country.

While addressing a ceremony in Rawalpindi, the Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf urged the electronic and print media to telecast Azan at the same time.

The minister said that the government is implementing Nizam-e-Salat with the cooperation of Ulema and scholars. However, he made it clear that police will not be used to implement Nizam-e-Salat.

Earlier in May, the religious affairs minister announced Nizam-e-Salat under which all sects agreed to offer Azans and prayers in Islamabad at the same time.

The minister made the announcement at the Faisal Mosque on May 1in the presence of Imam-e Kaaba Dr Sheikh Khalid al Ghamidi who was in Pakistan for a week-long visit at the time.
