General Raheel Sharif vows to defeat enemy’s designs against CPEC

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has vowed to defeat enemy’s designs against the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, saying it holds enormous potential for transforming the lives of region’s people.

“We are acutely aware of the enemy’s campaign against the corridor project,” the army chief said while addressing the passing-out parade at the Naval Academy in Islamabad on Saturday, according to the Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa.

“CPEC with Gwadar Port as its catalyst will be built and developed as one of most strategic deep sea port in the region at any cost whatsoever,” the COAS said.

His statement was made in an apparent reference to the Indian leadership’s remarks in which it clearly declined to accept the multi-billion dollar economic corridor between Pakistan and China.

Last Wednesday, in a meeting with the Chinese Vice Minister of Ministry of State Security Dong Haizhou at the army’s general headquarters in Rawalpindi, General Raheel Sharif assured the Chinese authorities of full cooperation for secure completion of the CPEC.

In a series of tweets, the DG ISPR further told that the COAS also said at the Naval Academy that the armed forces are ready to pay any price to safeguard the national interests be it Kashmir, development of new ports and exploitation of natural resources.

The army chief said that the entire world recognizes our security concerns.

“Ceasefire violations, and bloodletting in Balochistan, tribal areas and Karachi manifest enemy’s hostile intent,” he said.

General Raheel said that Pakistan has shown willingness to cooperate with other nations for peace but not at the expense of its national interests, sovereignty and national pride.

Moreover, he said that the entire nation has the resolve to eliminate the menace of terrorism. He said that the military operation Zarb-e-Azb is delivering decisive results and terrorists are resorting to desperate actions.
