ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping has said that Pakistan and China are “Iron Brothers”, and Beijing attaches the highest importance to its relations with Islamabad.
In a meeting with the Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi in Islamabad, the Chinese vice foreign minister said that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a transformative project that would benefit people of the two countries.
The Chinese leader said that CPEC is an important part of China’s larger vision for economic and transport connectivity in the region.
Cheng Guoping appreciated Pakistan’s critical role in the global war against terrorism, and urged the international community to recognize Pakistan’s contribution and sacrifices in this struggle.
The Chinese vice foreign minister also lauded Pakistan’s contribution for regional peace and stability, which were underscored by Pakistan’s support for the Heart of Asia process.
In his remarks Tariq Fatemi said that friendship with China is the cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy.
The special assistant said that two governments had reached consensus on upgrading their strategic ties, making the bilateral relationship a model for building a “Community of Shared Destiny.
“Pakistan and China shared a common vision for a peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan,” Fatemi said.
