NA-246 election results
KARACHI, Pakistan: Polling for by-election in NA-246 (Karachi-VIII) ended at 5:00 pm on Thursday and the process of counting of votes has also now been concluded.
The unofficial results arrived so far from all polling stations of NA-246 constituency are showing lead of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) as it candidate Kanwar Naveed Jameel has received 95,644 votes.
While Imran Ismail of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have bagged 24,821 votes and Rashid Naseem of the Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) have received 9,056 votes.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had established 213 polling stations in the constituency to allow 357,861 registered voters to use their right of franchise in NA-246 by-poll.
In order to avoid any untoward situation and to ensure law and order for the polling, around 2,556 policemen were employed to provide security to all polling stations set up in the constituency.
The Ranger personnel were also assigned the duty to provide security at almost all polling stations while closed circuit cameras were also installed.
Earlier in the day, while addressing the press and his party workers over the phone, the MQM Chief Altaf Hussain expressed hope that if people are allowed to cast their votes smoothly without pressure and duress, his party would win the elections.
