NUR Foundation celebrated Health Week

LAHORE, Pakistan: The NUR Foundation celebrated Health Week from 6th to 10th April, 2015 following the global theme of food safety.

Multiple activities were planned throughout the course of this week, engaging students of nutrition department of FMH Institute of Allied Health Sciences, interns of NUR Student Leadership Program and communities at Nainsukh.

The activities included an Awareness Walk on basic facts and rules applied to ensure food safety at user end. Documentary Screenings Competition was conducted on Food insecurity. A large number of organizations sent in entries which were screened and Jahanzeb Aamir from Lahore School of Economics won the competition for his submission titled ‘ How Safe is Your Chicken?’ There were multiple awareness speaker sessions conducted on repercussions of using bad foods such as tin foods and processed meat products. A health food fair was also arranged in the FMHCM&D vicinity to help students from other departments and public visiting the hospital to adapt healthy eating practices. The funds generated were donated to the NUR Food Bank which supports needy families by providing ration packages.

The Health Week was closed officially with community visits and nutrition camps were arranged to the NUR Primary Health Care Center at Nainsukh for the young students and patients visiting the Center on awareness about basic and affordable solutions to fight hunger and malnutrition.

The purpose of celebrating this week was to create awareness in communities about health, nutrition and food safety. NUR-FMS undertakes similar celebrations on a regular basis to commemorate global health causes and create awareness of public health issues.
