Lahore, Pakistan: The government of Punjab is taking protective measures after cases of swine flu in Indian Punjab, said a press handout released by official authorities.

Indian Punjab and Haryana provinces are under the grip of swine flu and 51 deaths have been reported due to swine flu  while while 31 people have died in Punjab and 20 in Haryana province. Pakistani Punjab borders with Indian Punjab therefore Pakistani Punjab has take high measure to stop outbreak this side of the border.

The provincial Advisor on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique has directed to take protective and precautionary measures in the province in view of the large number of swine flu cases and alleged deaths due to this virus in India.

He issued this directive while presiding over a meeting regarding protective measures in Punjab in view of swine flu cases in India at Civil Secretariat, today. Additional Secretary Health Technical Dr. Salman Shahid, Dean Institute of Public Health Prof. Moaz Ahmed, Additional Secretary Livestock Dr. Iqbal Shahid, Director Health (CDC) Dr. Ahmed Afifi, Deputy Secretary Medical Education Dr. Nasir Shakir, Additional Director Health Dr. Abdul Razzaq and representative of WHO Dr. Yahya attended the meeting.

Dr. Ahmed Afifi told that due to swine flu cases reported in India, steps have been started according to SOPs and guidelines of CDC Atlanta and WHO in the province. He further told that surveillance staff of all districts has been provided necessary training and awareness in Lahore and Tami flue tablets being used in H1 N1 flue has been provided in abundance in all districts.
