Two more convicted terrorists hanged in Karachi

KARACHI, Pakistan: Two more convicted terrorists affiliated with the banned militant outfit Lashkar-i-Jhangvi were executed in Central Jail Karachi on Tuesday morning.

The convicts including Attaullah alias Qasim and Muhammad Azam alias Sharif were sentenced to death for killing Dr Ali Raza Peerani in June 2001 in Soldier Bazaar area of Karachi.

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) had found both the terrorists guilty, and awarded death penalty to them in July 2004.

The authorities had taken strict security measures inside and around the prison during the time of the executions.

Following the hanging, their bodies were handed over to their respective families.

“They were hanged at 6:30 this morning and their bodies have been handed to their relatives,” a prison official told a foreign news agency.

With two more executions, the number of hanged convicted criminals has reached 22 since Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif lifted a six-year moratorium on death penalty on December 17 last year.

The executions include 14 in Punjab, seven in Sindh and one in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
