21st Constitutional Amendment Bill tabled in NA

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Assembly resumed its session in Islamabad on Saturday morning during which the 21st Constitutional Amendment Bill and Pakistan Army (Amendment) Bill 2015 were tabled in the House.

The Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Pervaiz Rasheed tabled the motions in the Lower House of the Parliament.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was also present in the National Assembly.

Later, the House was adjourned to meet again on Monday evening.

The constitutional amendment bill will require to be passed by two-thirds of the total participants in both the 342-seat National Assembly and the 104-seat Senate.

However, a simple majority will be required for amendment in the Pakistan Army Act 1952.

On Friday, the heads of parliamentary parties deliberated over the national action plan for over five hours and reached a consensus to bring amendments in the constitution for the establishment of special courts for speedy trial of the terrorists.

The special courts are being constituted under the national action plan against terrorism which was agreed upon by all the political parties on December 24.

The all parties conference held in Islamabad on Friday endorsed to bring amendments in the constitution as well as the Army Act, according to the communiqué issued after the meeting.

The establishment of special courts will be provided constitutional shield, it said.
