ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) in Islamabad has been closed for an indefinite period due to security reasons, the university spokesman said on Saturday.

In a statement, the spokesman said that instructions have been issued in order to continue the process of admissions in the university as per schedule.

Moreover, he said that instructions will be issued regarding the reopening of the university.

The initiative was taken following the security threats faced by the educational institutions across the country especially after the deadly terror attack on an army-run school in Peshawar that left nearly 150 persons mostly children dead.

The sources said that in the meeting, the VC quoted intelligence and police reports which had said that as the university occupied a vast area and was open from all sides it could be an easy target for militants.

The VC directed those attending the meeting to inform staff to remain vigilant against any suspicious activity, especially at bus terminals.

It was also decided that security would be beefed up at the university and no visitors and vehicles would be allowed to enter the university premises without registration
